The regular activities being conducted to generate grains statistics are
designed to provide agricultural managers and government policy makers with the
up-to-date and reliable information on production, prices and stock position of
rice and corn. The major activities are the following:
1. Rice and Corn Production Survey (RCPS)
The rice and corn surveys are conducted on a quarterly frequency to provide
periodic estimates of the country's cereal crops. Its objectives are:
- To generate quarterly data on palay and corn area, production and yield;
- To generate short term forecast on area and production; and
- To collect quarterly data on production utilization and fertilizer usage.
Generated Outputs
- Area, production and yield - two weeks after the reference quarter
- Palay and Corn Harvesting Pattern - two weeks after the reference quarter
- Production and Use Estimates - a month after the reference semester
- Fertilizer Usage - two months after the reference semester
- Production Utilization - two months after the reference quarter
- Crop Damage Report - a week upon receipt of field reports/end of December
- Selected Provincial Statistics on Cereals - end of April
- Rice Statistics Handbook - end of the year
- Other related statistics - as need arises
2. Palay and Corn Stocks Survey (PCSS)
This is a monthly survey of grains inventory held by farm and non-farm
households. This serves as vehicle for monitoring cereal stocks of households at
the beginnign of each month. Together with the National Food Authority's stocks
as well as those in the commercial warehouses, policy makers are able to
determine total stock inventory of rice and corn. Its objectives are:
- To determine the available monthly household stock inventory of rice and
corn; and
- To determine the cereal stock level of the country as of the first day of
the month
Generated Outputs
- Rice and Corn Stock Inventory of Households, Commercial warehouses and NFA
