Vegetable deliveries found their way to the wholesale markets in Divisoria and Cloverleaf before typhoon “Basyang” hit the Metropolis.
Most temperate and tropical vegetables cleared bulk sales at discounted rates from last week’s price levels. Those offered at lower prices were chayote, white potato, ampalaya, okra, radish and tomato. Radish recorded the highest discount of 33 percent or P6 lower than the P12 per kilogram prevailing price last week. Chayote, was cheaper by 26.67 percent.
Wholesale volumes were more than what retail markets need as indicated by stable prices during the reference period.
Retail prices of pechay native and radish prevailed at P40 and P30 per kilogram, respectively. Both were cheaper by P10 per kilogram compared to last week’s price quotations.
Due to extremely low market absorption retailers had to reduce their procurement.
Meanwhile, fish counters were filled with various species. Prices of Indian mackerel (alumahan) and groupers (lapu-lapu) were down by P20 and P30 per kilogram, respectively, relative to last week’s price tags.

Fruit stalls remained well supplied, both locally grown and imported fruits. Rambutan and lanzones proliferated fruit stands.
However, the dwindling supply of mangoes pushed retail price up by P10 per kilogram.
Prices of basic food commodities like rice, sugar, chicken, meat products and cooking oil were generally stable.
