Crops Statistics Division (CSD)

The CSD is responsible for the compilation, organization and analyzes of survey and secondary data and other relevant information on cereals, fruitcrops, vegetables, rootcrops and non-food crop for use in agricultural planning, policy formulation and program development of the Department of Agriculture and its bureaus and attached agencies, other research institutions, academe, agribusiness sectors, cooperatives and individuals in the rural communities involved in crop farming. Specifically, it discharges the following responsibilities:

  1. Organizes, reviews and analyzes survey data on crops for consistency with data from other sources, i.e. previous surveys, administrative data, other surveys and supply-demand balance sheets;
  2. Collects, compiles, organizes and analyzes information on production, number of trees, and cereal stocks for the national and sub-national levels;
  3. Reviews and analyzes the accuracy and reasonability of periodic estimates and forecasts relative to information on weather, pests and diseases and government programs, projects and policies and private sector's interventions.
  4. Collaborates with the Statistical Methods and Research Division in the development of survey design, frame construction and conduct of statistical researches designed to improve accuracy and reliability of crop estimate as well as in survey planning, implementation, conduct of training and development of survey instruments; and
  5. Provides the NIN with updated statistics and other relevant information on the crop sub-sector for easy access of end-users.

These functions are carried out by the Cereal (Rice and Corn) Statistics Section , Fruit Crops Statistics Section, Industrial and Non-Food Crops Statistics Section, and Vegetable and Rootcrops Statistics Section.

Cereal Statistics Section (CSS)

  1. Provides adequate and reliable information on palay, corn and other cereals for use in agricultural planning and policy formulation at the local and national levels;
  2. Prepares periodic estimates, including semestral forecasts, on palay and corn areas and production at the local and national levels;
  3. Prepares statistical input requirements for determining the supply and demand for cereals, specifically rice and corn;
  4. Provides information on employment, income and other socio-economic variables related to cereal farming;
  5. Collaborates with the other divisions in the preparation of instruments for primary data collection; and,
  6. Compiles and analyzes other information on cereals.

Fruit Crops Statistics Section (FCSS)

  1. Prepares quarterly/semestral/annual estimates for fruit crops at the national and local levels;
  2. Prepares semestral forecast on fruit area, number of trees and production at the national and local levels;
  3. Compiles all relevant information on fruit crops for use in economic and agricultural planning and policy formulation;
  4. Prepares the statistical input requirements for determining the supply and demand for other fruit crops;
  5. Prepares the summary statistical tables for regular surveys on fruit crops;
  6. Prepares final statistical tables as well as corresponding analyses of survey data on other fruit crops; and,
  7. Performs such other functions which may be assigned by higher authorities.

Non-Food and Industrial Crops Statistics Section (NFICSS)

  1. Prepares quarterly/semestral/annual estimates for industrial and non-food crops at the national and local levels;
  2. Prepares semestral forecasts on industrial and non-food crops; area, number of trees, and production at the national and local levels;
  3. Compiles all relevant information on industrial and non-food crops for use in economic and agricultural planning and policy formulation;
  4. Prepares the statistical input requirements for determining the supply and demand for industrial and non-food crops;
  5. Prepares the summary statistical tables for all regular surveys on industrial and non-food crops conducted by the Bureau;
  6. Prepares final statistical tables as well as the corresponding analysis of the survey data on industrial and non-food crops; and,
  7. Performs such other functions which may be assigned by higher authorities.

Vegetable and Rootcrops Statistics Section (VRSS)

  1. Prepares and analyzes quarterly/semestral/annual estimates of vegetable and rootcrops at the national and local levels;
  2. Compiles all relevant information on vegetables and root crops for use in economic and agricultural planning and policy formulation at the national and local levels;
  3. Prepares the statistical input requirements for determining the supply and demand for vegetable and root crops;
  4. Prepares the summary statistical tables for all regular surveys related to vegetable and root crops;
  5. Prepares final statistical tables as well as corresponding analyses of survey data on other fruit crops;
  6. Prepares semestral forecasts on fruit area, number of trees and production at the national and local levels; and,
  7. Performs such other functions which may be assigned by higher authorities.
