  • In South Cotabato, most farmers were into land preparation for the 2nd cropping owing with the resumption of operation of irrigation Dams 1 and 2 in Allah river.
  • In North Cotabato, harvesting of wet season cropping of irrigated palay in Tulunan and some parts of M'lang had started but most of palay areas on these municipalities were still on reproductive and maturing stage at present.
  • Still in North Cotabato, production of temperate fruits like rambutan, mangosteen, lanzones, marang and durian increased from last year's records.
  • In Sultan Kudarat, about 39 bags of organic fertilizer were applied to 40 hectares of irrigated palay in the municipalities of Kalamansig Lebak, Lutayan, and Isulan for 5 hectares each and for Esperanza and Lambayong each 10 hectares.
  • In South Cotabato, fish kill was reported in Lake Sebu. As of August 15, 2012, about 17 tons of tilapia of assorted sizes was killed.
  • In South Cotabato, average buying price per kilogram of corn grain white continued to decrease from P15.40 last year to P12.87 this year because of low buying price set by shippers/traders as market demand declined in local export market such as in Davao and Visayas region.
  • In the region, monthly average buying price per kilogram of rubber cup lump continued to decrease compared to last year's level from P80.00 to P41.75. This was influenced by the downward trend of price of rubber in world market.
  • In Kidapawan City, North Cotabato, the retail price of lanzones ranged from P35.00 to P50.00 per kilogram for native variety and P60.00 to P80.00 per kilogram for longkong and duco variety. Mangosteen was quoted at P75.00 to P90.00 per kilogram.
  • In Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist continued to conduct the Hemorrhagic Septecimia vaccination with 142 head of native carabao and eight (8) head of cross-breed carabao vaccinated.
  • In South Cotabato, the local government of Lake Sebu made a municipal ordinance to reduce the number of fish cages in the lake by about 50 percent. The ordinance will be gradually implemented giving leeway for the operators to harvest all their cages with stock at present.
  • In Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, the Agri-Pinoy Corn program of the DA-RFU XII conducted Agri-Fair contest during the Barangay Poblacion foundation anniversary last July 31, 2012. The said contest was participated in by seven (7) barangays showcasing their respective entries of corn farming.
  • In Sarangani, the LGU awarded the following farm equipments under the Agri-Pinoy Palayan Program in support to food staple sufficiency program of the DA RFO XII.
    - Three (3) units of hand tractor and two (2) units of rice thresher to the Pangi Multi Purpose Cooperative.
    - One (1) unit hand of tractor to the Zion-Sison Edenton Irrigators Association.
    - One (1) unit hand of tractor and one (1) unit rice of thresher to the Mabay Irrigators Association. About 76 bags of inbred rice seeds for 10 irrigators' association beneficiaries in Maitum.
  • Still in Sarangani, the LGU awarded 76 bags of inbred rice seeds to the ten (10) irrigator's association beneficiaries in Maitum last August 13, 2012. The rice seeds were from Philrice and NIA as part of their community's seed-banking program to encourage the local seed growers to produce certified seeds.
  • In South Cotabato, the LGU through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) received Automated Weather Station Equipment from the League of Province supported by Aboitiz Power, Union Bank and Meteomedia which is an Australian private organization. This is to monitor the weather condition in some parts of the province with this equipment which can record weather conditions within four kilometer radius and will give update every 10 minutes.
  • In South Cotabato, Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) dispersed 139,000 coconut seedlings throughout the province and agricultural salt to the following municipalities: Polomolok 800 bags, Tupi 2,700 bags, Tampakan 1,724 bags, Korondal 1,876 bags, Banga 2,900 bags, Suralla 1,200 bags, Noral 200 bags and T'boli 300 bags.
    For the search of Gawad Saka, South Cotabato had three (3) national finalists: Engr. Daniel Apostol of Koronadal City for Outstanding Family, Mr Resly Buca for Outstanding Corn Farmer, and the RIC Livelihood Association of Polomolok for outstanding Rural Improvement Club (RIC).
  • In Antipas, North Cotabato, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist released 4,000 budded rubber seedlings to ten (10) farmer beneficiaries which was under the Plant Now Pay Later (PNPL) program funded by the LGU. Each budded rubber seedlings costs P22.00 and payable after 5 years.
  • In Buayan, M'lang, North Cotabato, a double "A" classified slaughterhouse was inaugurated last August 2, 2012 which was the first LGU -run. Funding of the project was shared by National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) that allotted P4M and M'lang LGU that released at least P4M. With the use of various sophisticated modern equipment, livestock such as carabao and cattle can be slaughtered in 30 minutes. Once the slaughter house is in full operation this will also cater services for the nearby provinces of Davao del Sur, Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat.
  • Still in North Cotabato, the Provincial Agriculturist allocated 100 bags of OPV white corn seeds each for the municipalities of P. Roxas, Matalam and Pigcawayan with the scheme of 50-50. The qualified farmers will pay P500.00 upon withdrawal of the seeds from their respective Municipal Agriculturist Office and the other P500.00 will be shouldered by OPAG.
  • The PhilRice Midsayap, North Cotabato, released 500 bags of registered seeds at 20 kilograms/bag for the province. The seeds were received by the National Irrigation Administration-Provincial Office and will distribute to different Irrigators Associations (IAs) in the province. Each farmer recipient will received 1 bag of seeds for free. Varieties of registered seeds are RC 222, RC 224, RC 212 and RC 158.
  • In Sultan Kudarat, the BFAR XII distributed about 20,000 bangus fry to qualified beneficiaries in Barangay Lilit Lambayong.
  • In Alabel, Sarangani, the barangay officials of Maribulan participated in the mangrove planting and fish restocking activity in Sarangani bay as part of their 60th foundation anniversary celebration. The Alcantara Foundation released 101,640, 21-day old milkfish fry in Sarangani bay as part of their commitment to release 50 million milkfish fry and providing mangrove seedlings for preserving the Sarangani bay.
  • The Philippine Coconut Authority of Sultan Kudarat conducted special meeting about Brontispa Control project of the province with the members of the technical working group on August 14, 2012 at RCPC Conference Hall, Tacurong City.
  • In North Cotabato, a three-day Regional Rubber Industry Congress was conducted on August 22-24, 2012 at the JC Business and Leisure Complex, Lanao, Kidapawan City . The Metro Kidapawan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc (MKCCIFI) was the lead organizer of the event. The congress was attended by around 500 stakeholders of natural rubber industry from all over Mindanao nearby provinces/cities of Visayas. The Congress aims to help the promotion and development of a globally competitive rubber industry, increase in production area and improve farmer's income. It also served as a venue to discuss issues/problems affecting natural rubber industry not only for the province but the whole country as well.
  • In Tulunan, North Cotabato, the DA- RFO XII provided financial assistance worth P300,000.00 to Amyon Irrigators Association which was part of the program "Sikat-Saka" between the DA and Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP). The Sikat - saka is an agricultural credit assistance program for the small farmers to increase their production. Qualified to avail this credit scheme are land owners with clean title of the land. Each beneficiary can avail P40,000.00 per hectare of irrigated palay farm.
  • In the region, fair to sunny days with intermittent rain shower prevailed for the first two (2) weeks of the month and moderate to heavy rain were experienced across the region during third week.
