At the vegetable trade, the lowland-grown vegetables such as amargoso, string beans , eggplant and okra continued to prevail at last week’s asking prices.

Similar trend was observed for the temperate vegetables. Carrots, habitchuelas and white potato were pegged at P40 per kilogram and chayote at P15 per kilogram.

The only indicator vegetable item that was sold at higher quotation this week was cabbage. The 18.39 percent price increase at bulk trade was passed on to the consumers.   A P10 per kilogram mark-up was recorded  at retail trade.

At the fruit counters, commonly bought banana and other in-season fruits remained available at affordable prices. The 18-kilogram “kaing” of medium-size mango was sold at P750 to P800 in Mega Q-Mart wholesale counters.   This was supplied by major producers in Pangasinan and  Zambales.   A kilogram of this tropical fruit was sold at retail at P70.
