Stable Prices of Agricultural Food Products in the Metropolis

Period Covered: April 4 - 12, 2012

Retail trading  in Metro Manila markets during the week was  relatively stable.

Deliveries of habitchuelas from Nueva Vizcaya and Cavite augmented the supply that came from Benguet.    The increase in supply of this legume led to 50.0 percent drop in wholesale price.

At  retail outlets, it was offered at P10  lower than the previous week’s prevailing price of P60 per kilogram.     Prices of  indicator vegetables stood firm at last week’s  levels due to lesser  requirements as consumers spent more for meat products and chicken after the observance of the Holy Week.commodity

On the other hand, ampalaya, pechay native and tomato posted P10 per kilogram price increment compared with last week’s quotation.

At the fish section, lapu-lapu showed a P20 per kilogram discount from the P300 per kilogram tag last week.

Sufficient supply of meat and chicken allowed  prevailing retail prices to remain stable at P260 per kilogram for beef rump (tapadera); P180 per kilogram for pork belly (liempo) and P120 per kilogram for dressed chicken.

commodityMeanwhile, the price of a piece of medium-sized chicken egg remained at P4.50.     

Calamansi, which was sold at P90 per kilogram last week was retailed at P80 this week.

commoditySupply and prices of other fruits were  stable.   The price of a kilogram  of  mango  continued  to prevail at P60.   Papaya now sold at P30 per kilogram and medium-sized pineapple at P50 per piece.

Prices of other basic necessities were generally stable.
