Retail Prices of Agricultural Food Items Stable in the Metropolis

Period Covered: February 1-9, 2012

Shipments of fresh food in the Metropolis during the week in review were reportedly more than the market requirements. Prices of vegetables at wholesale outlets recorded significant cuts. Price discounts ranged from 4.0 percent for carrots to as much as 31.43 percent for white onion.

However, cabbage, habitchuelas, pechay Baguio, eggplant and okra cleared bulk trade at higher price tags.

On other hand, prices this week at retail trade did not follow wholesale trends. Retailers had to consider the soft trade rather than their procurement costs in pricing their stocks. Prices of most indicator vegetables remained stable at previous week's quotations.

commodityIn the case of carrots and pechay native, consumers enjoyed P10 per kilogram discounts from last week's prevailing prices. For tomato, a P5 per kilogram reduction in retail price was recorded.

 

It was noted that price of white potato went up by 14.29 percent from last week's quotations.

commodityAt the fish markets, most species monitored over the week were retailed at last week's prices. Exceptions were tilapia and alumahan which were quoted at P90 and P140 per kilogram. These were P10 and P20 per kilogram higher than the previous week's tags, respectively.

 

 

commodityIn-season fruits like mango, watermelon and those commonly bought fruits such as banana, pineapple and papaya were similarly in abundance. Retail prices stayed at last week's levels.

 

 

Prices and supply of meat products, sugar, cooking oil and other basic necessities were generally stable.
