Prices of Agricultural Food Items Generally Stable in the Metropolis

Period Covered: January 4 - 12, 2012

Prices of basic food commodities at the Metro markets were relatively stable during the week in review.        Most farm products were offered either at discounted quotations or at previous week's price tags.

Some temperate vegetables which prices were stirred during the holiday season registered further price cuts as unloadings at the wholesale outlets were reportedly sufficient in all markets visited.

Price discounts offered by the retailers were limited to P5 up to P10 per kilogram relative to last week's prevailing quotations. The less perishable items like ginger, garlic, onions and mongo stood firm at old price levels at both wholesale and retail trading.

Likewise, bangus, tulingan and alumahan continued to sell at P120 per kilogram at retail fish stalls. Shrimps or suaje and sugpo were 12.0 percent and 16.0 percent lower compared to last week's quotations.
