Metro Markets Well Supplied with Fresh Food Items

The volume of basic and prime commodities available at the wholesale and retail outlets in the Metropolis was notably more than sufficient during the week. This supply situation kept prices of rice, cooking oil and sugar firm at retail trade.

Wholesale prices were relatively lower this week for most indicator vegetables. Discounts were recorded from 7.89 percent for amargoso to as much as 30.77 percent for pechay Baguio. Meanwhile, retailers either maintained or reduced their previous prevailing tags given the ample supply at lower acquisition cost.

Price cut enjoyed by consumers was P10 per kilogram compared to last weeks' quotations.

commodityHowever, pechay native registered price appreciation at both wholesale and retail trade levels.

 

 

commodityAt the fruit markets, the volume of imported fruits was increasing because of the Christmas season. These imported ones were among the fast-selling items in most fruits stands. Our locally grown fruits remained available to consumers at old prices. Mango, however, was offered at P10 per kilogram less than last week's prices of P100 per kilogram.

Prices of pork ham (pigue) and chicken continued to prevail at P170 and P130 per kilogram, respectively.

Fishery products, likewise, maintained their previous weeks' price levels. A wide choice of marine fish species was made available to buyers. Bangus, tulingan and alumahan continued to sell at P120 per kilogram.

commodityHowever, prices of some species like lapu-lapu and sugpo were expected to increase in anticipation of higher demand for the Christmas and New Year's celebration.
