Lower Price Tags of Selected Vegetable Items Noted

Period Covered: July 13-21, 2011

Wholesale and retail trading in Metro Manila wet markets during the week was characterized by either stable or discounted quotations.

commodityAmong those items marked down at both wholesale and retail markets this week were ampalaya, stringbeans, eggplant, tomato and okra.

Decreases in wholesale prices were placed between 6.67 percent to as much as 55.55 percent compared to last week's levels.

Buyers of eggplant in Divisoria and Balintawak market enjoyed more than 50 percent price discounts. Prevailing price was P20 per kilogram this week compared to last week's quotation of P45 per kilogram. Stringbeans recorded a P10 price cut off this week.

Wholesale price increments of 2.02 percent and 6.67 percent were noted for cabbage and carrots, respectively. The volume of deliveries from Benguet was lower this week.

At retail trade, prices were generally at previous weeks' levels except for the items mentioned where offerings followed the wholesale pattern.

commodityAt the fish section, prices of tilapia, milkfish and round scad (galunggong) remained stable at P80, P90, and P120 per kilogram, respectively.

Meat and chicken prices were stationary. Sugar and
bottled cooking oil continued to prevail at last weeks' prices.

 

commodityOn fruits, calamansi which was sold at P55 per kilogram a week ago at bulk was priced at P50 per kilogram this week. Pineapple, santol and avocado were abundant at fruit stands.
